Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of the establishing and maintaining of a surface mine mechanical plant management system including:

accessing, reading, interpreting and applying procedures for;

managing technical information

managing site/legislative requirements

establishing recording and reporting systems

conducting briefings and handover details

applying the principles of mine design

hazard identification and risk management

work planning and coordination

training needs analysis

using manufacturers’ instructions

using effective communication

works effectively with others to establish and maintain a surface mine mechanical plant management system including:

establishing training to support, maintain and improve activity

managing people and processes

resolving conflict

coordinating human, financial and physical resources

developing, initiating and administering work plans

interpreting and applying operational performance data

engaging internal and external stakeholders

demonstrates completion of establishing and maintaining a surface mine mechanical plant management system that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

identifying the relevant information and scope of the work

identifying the full range of specification requirements

identifying all aspects of the surface mine mechanical plant

selecting the preferred management system options

establishing and implementing the mine mechanical plant management system which establishes procedures for maintaining safe equipment including:

identifying options to control hazards and risks relating to mine mechanical plant and equipment which are analysed and clarified in the mechanical plan management system including:

explosion initiate from mechanical equipment

toxic substances generated by mechanical equipment

the release of uncontrolled kinetic energy (unplanned movements) on mechanical equipment

the interaction and/or failure of transport and production equipment

the use and storage of high pressure fluids

moving and rotating parts on mechanical equipment

fluid injection incidents

dangerous goods, e.g. LPG, flammable liquids

lifting and towing systems

hazards associated with transport of equipment and other plant

interrelationship between people and mechanical equipment

auditing and reviewing the mechanical plant management system


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in establishing and maintaining a surface mine mechanical plant management system through:

legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for;

mine operation

environmental monitoring

risk management

emergency response and evacuation

mine plans

firefighting systems

transport rules

maintenance operations

standard operating procedures

training

mine design relating to production and transport systems and equipment

production and transport systems and equipment management requirements

production and transport equipment and systems (types, uses, characteristics and limitations appropriate for safe operation at the mine site)

energy sources, including protection and reticulation systems for electrical, hydraulic, compressed air, diesel

information on mine fires; the types, sources of ignition and possible impacts on plant and equipment

accessing, reading, interpreting and applying safety design features of production and transport systems

using stores system

specification design criteria, including noise, dust, lighting, ergonomics, remote control, physical clearance, confined space, visibility, seating vibration and machine equipment and personal protection

training programs

computer based systems relating to production and transport systems
